自1970年開始，每逢星期三舉行的午間音樂會便為本地及外來的演奏家提供一個重要的演出場地。當時詩班牧師是Patrick Nicholas牧師，他發覺在午飯時間有很多在中區工作的人和遊客會來到座堂作休息默想。他得到張達鵬先生及Mary Moore小姐的協助招募本地表演者及作推廣，就是這樣開始了午間音樂會。
